The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), based in Paris, France, is seeking a motivated intern to work on water quality and chemical policy issues within the Water Team of the Environment Directorate. The Water Team is an energetic, multidisciplinary team, active on topics such as water finance and water quality policies.

Main Responsibilities

The candidate would primarily help with research and drafting for a report on policies to manage contaminants of emerging concern (CECs) in the freshwater environment, focused on endocrine disruption.

Research, data analysis and drafting

  • Draft case studies on water quality policy actions in OECD countries;
  • Draft short texts on illustrative examples of endocrine disrupting chemicals in the freshwater environment;
  • Conduct a literature review;
  • Develop a set of policy recommendations on minimising the risk of endocrine disruption in the freshwater environment for countries.

Communication and outreach

  • Support the organisation of a science-policy workshop on endocrine disruption;
  • Prepare presentations and meeting documentation;
  • Participate in meetings and seminars;
  • Prepare the launch of the official publication of the report on endocrine disruption.


The candidate will also be exposed to other streams of work in the Water Team and in the ETR Division, such as water finance or policy dialogues on water.

Ideal Candidate Profile

Academic

  • Full time student in a discipline related to biology, ecotoxicology, chemistry, health sciences, environmental sciences or a related discipline;
  • Enrolment in a Master’s degree or higher is desirable.

Professional experience and skills

  • Experience or training in a subject relevant to water policy (preferably water quality policy) and/or chemical policy;
  • Ability in translating science into policy-relevant analyses and recommendations;
  • Excellent writing skills and ability to expressing ideas in English: proven ability to draft short and long pieces is essential.
  • Knowledge about endocrine disruption is desirable.

Languages

  • Written and spoken fluency in English;
  • Knowledge of other OECD languages would be an asset.

Practical matters


This offer is for a full-time position for 6 months starting in September 2022. Applicants need to be enrolled in university for the full duration of the internship.

The internship will take place at the OECD office in Paris (France), but remote working arrangements can be considered depending on future COVID-related conditions. Interns at the OECD do not receive a salary. However, the OECD grants a contribution to living expenses of around 700 euros per calendar month worked.
