Emerging Contaminants Symposium 2026

19th - 20th August 2026

Online & in person event

Emerging contaminants are challenging how we detect, understand and manage risk. As analytical capability advances, the gap between what we can measure and what we can confidently interpret continues to grow, raising critical questions about prioritisation, decision-making and real-world outcomes. This creates a need for integrated, cross-disciplinary approaches that can translate complex and uncertain information into practical outcomes.

The Emerging Contaminants Symposium will tackle this directly by bringing together leading experts from industry, government and research to explore the current state of knowledge, identify key gaps, and support more effective translation of environmental data into risk-based desision making.

The symposium will focus on translating knowledge into action, supporting clearer prioritisation, more consistent decision-making, and improved environmental and human health outcomes.

By combining the strengths of ALEC, ALGA and SETAC, the program will adopt a holistic, cross-disciplinary approach spanning:

  • Laboratory analysis and monitoring
  • Fate and transport
  • Toxicity
  • Regulation and policy
  • Treatment and management practices
